The Frigidaire Professional refrigerator and freezer columns are some of our best selling appliances due to their great price point and design flexibility. However, we notice many customers make costly mistakes when ordering these due to confusion with the dimensions required for proper installation. In this article, we will take an in-depth look at what makes Frigidaire Professional fridge and freezer so unique, while also helping you avoid common mistakes.
Below you will find our exclusive in-depth video review of Frigidaire Professional refrigerator and freezer colums.
Why choose a column / is it worth it?
Refrigerator columns are becoming very popular in kitchen renovations. They offer massive storage capacity and an attractive pro-style design. However, if you've spent any amount of time researching refrigeration columns, you'll see that popular high-end brands demand price tags well over $7,000 for a single unit. For a lot of families, that price point makes columns inaccessible.
Frigidaire saw this increase in demand for more refrigeration space and lack of competition at a lower price as an opportunity to introduce the FPFU19F8RF All-Freezer and FPRU19F8RF All-Refrigerator columns. Each has a much more reasonable price point and can frequently be found on sale at our website for well under $2,000. You'll get a well-made and reliable column at less than 1/3 the price of a high-end brand.
Moreover, Frigidaire Professional Series offers a full suite of kitchen appliances to compliment this super popular all refrigerator and freezer combination. We reviewed the complete Frigidaire Professional Series catalog in our earlier post.
Dimensions / Avoid costly mistakes
Besides affordability, the other main reason customers end up choosing Frigidaire Professional columns is due to their flexible installation options. However, this is where you'll also need to pay close attention to dimensions. Many customers make the mistake of assuming these columns are 30" wide. In fact, they are slightly larger at 32" wide and 71 1/2" tall.
Each unit can be installed independently and requires a minimum cabinet cutout space of 33" wide and 72" tall. Add a single trim-kit, and you'll get a truly pro-style built-in look that increases the height of the unit to either 75 1/8" or 79 1/8" based on whether or not you use the included stainless steel louver. Your cutout width will remain the same. However, you're required cutout height will increase to either 75" or 79" respectively. Note the unit height is actually 1/8" taller than the cutout height. That is because the trim kit overlaps the cabinet by 1/8" for a seamless design. That covers the single unit installations.
However, the most popular option is to install these columns together as a fridge freezer pair. This will give you a massive amount of storage capacity at 38 cu. ft., which is about 50% more capacity than a typical French door or side by side refrigerator, allowing you to keep your groceries in your kitchen instead of needing a separate fridge or freezer for storage in your garage or basement. The total required cabinet cutout for this pair installation is 66" wide and 72" tall. The available dual trim kit will complete the setup and make the pair look like one continuous unit in your kitchen. Again, the cutout width stays the same at 66", however, the height will increase to the same heights as listed above for the single unit with a trim kit.
We spent a lot of time covering dimensions but for a good reason. This should help you avoid costly errors if you're renovating and planning to use these in your new kitchen. For more information review the manufacturer's specification sheet over at our website.
Frigidaire has done a thorough job of providing all the required cutout dimensions for each installation option on the specifications documents which we list under products on our site. If you have any questions, please call us, and we'd be happy to walk you through what's required.
When it comes to features, the Frigidaire Professional columns have everything you'd expect from high-quality refrigeration appliances.
One of our favorite Frigidaire innovations is their "Smudge-Proof" stainless steel, which is the most effective coating in the industry. At almost 66" wide, the fridge/freezer pair is a lot of stainless steel. If you have kids, or if your guests can't keep their hands off of your beautiful new appliances, keeping them clean and free of fingerprints can be a challenge. The smudge-proof surface makes it effortless to keep your appliances looking new.
The All-Refrigerator and All-Freezer columns are designed to be energy efficient and quiet. Both offer precise temperature and humidity control, which help to keep your food fresh and vibrant for as long as possible, as well as a PureAir Filtration System, which removes up to 7 times as much odor as baking soda. Besides, if you are installing these as a pair, you will have the inherent benefit of having a separate refrigerator and freezer which prevents flavor transfer between the two units.
Overall build quality is what differentiates Frigidaire Professional over other competitors, and that can be noticed immediately in the thoughtfully engineered interior of the columns. Frigidaire has maximized the use of space with their SpacePro shelving, bins, and baskets. The glass shelves are sturdy and adjustable.
You'll also find luxury features such as bright, interior LED lighting and sturdy pro-style handles.
