Bosch dishwashers received some fairly significant upgrades in the last 12 months. These changes came after Bosch conducted a comprehensive review of customers’ use of Bosch dishwashers under real-life conditions.

Towards the end of 2019 Bosch brought us two new and effective drying solutions - the AutoAir Dry and CrystalDry.

The 500 Series dishwashers now have new models with AutoAir Dry feature. This is an important new development for Bosch as it dramatically enhances drying with a door that opens ajar when the clean cycle is over.

As for the CrystalDry, Bosch steals a page from Thermador playbook, its sister company in the US. CrystalDry is now on 800 Series and Benchmark dishwashers. This technology brings the heat up to 176F in the tub. It is designed to bone-dry all dishes without adding to the energy usage.

The Bosch MyWay Rack was developed in order to save space in the lower racks to allow for larger pots and pans. Similarly, the new EasyGlide racks extend smoothly even when the racks are fully loaded. The quiet operation has become a unique hallmark of Bosch dishwashers, with the new class taking this distinguishing characteristic to new heights.

Bosch Dishwasher Series

Top 8 Improvements with Bosch Dishwashers:

  1. CrystalDry on the 800 Series and Benchmark Series dishwashers. Best drying performance without the use of a heating element which melts plastics and bakes on remnant food.
  2. AutoAir Dry on 500 Series dishwashers which opens the door ajar once the cycle is over. Enhances drying performance dramatically and lets fresh air in when you cannot get to your dishwasher (like at night or while you are at work).
  3. Bosch wisely transformed the upper rack of silverware to allow it to house deeper items. Bosch is calls this the Bosch MyWay Rack, and it’s found on select Bosch models.
  4. Models that did not get the MyWay Rack received a more flexible and luxurious 3rd rack (300 series and up).
  5. Major sound-insulating improvements have been made to already whisper-soft machines, allowing use of Bosch dishwashers in open-floor plan kitchens with no disruption.
  6. Smooth gliding racks on new ball bearing wheels make loading and unloading incredibly easy, leading to the Bosch branded name, “EasyGlide”.
  7. Internet connectivity is now available on some models under the HomeConnect name.
  8. Speed60 express wash in under 60 minutes is now standard on almost all Bosch dishwashers.

  • Do Bosch dishwashers have a heating element?
No. Here are the top 3 reasons why best dishwasher manufactrures such as Bosch and Miele refrain from using heating elements.
    1. Heating elements use excessive amounts of energy and most manufacturers go for condensation drying to be Energy Star compliant.
    2. In addition, heating elements typically melt any plastics in the bottom rack.
    3. If any food residue is left after a wash cycle, a heating element might bake residual food on your dishes which can be difficult to scrub off.

  • I have small kitchen. Does Bosch make 18" dishwashers?
Yes. Bosch offers 18" models in stainless steel, white or black. There are also panel ready versions of 18" dishwashers. Both 300 Series and flagship 800 Series feature models to cover the entire spectrum. Here is a quick link for the entire catalog of 18" dishwashers. These dishwashers are fully featured and extremely quiet at 44 dbA. Most models have built in water softeners and are designed to meet ADA height restrictions.

  • What is a panel-ready dishwasher? Does Bosch make panel ready dishwashers?

Panel ready dishwasher means that your dishwasher will have an unfinished front so you can match it with your cabinets.

Instead of using a stainless steel panel (or white or black for that matter) these models give you the option to match the front of your dishwasher with that of your cabinets for a seamless look. Bosch makes a number of fully featured panel ready dishwashers. Here is a quick link for the selection.

  • What is an ADA height dishwasher? Does Bosch make ADA height dishwashers
Some kitchens have raised floors (i.e. floor installers took a shortcut and got lazy about moving your appliances during new floor installation). Therefore, you may need to get a slightly shorter dishwasher to be able to fit the opening. These slightly shorter models are called ADA height dishwashers. Yes Bosch indeed has an ample selection in the ADA compliant dishwasher category.

  • Does Bosch make dishwashers with a water softener? Does a water softener really make a difference?
Yes and Yes. First, if you live in an area with hard water -such as New Jersey - you will likely get water marks on your dishes after drying them. In addition, hard water is not good for your dishwasher. Water softeners eliminate water spots so you get sparkling result each time. Here is a quick link to all Bosch dishwasher models that feaure a water softener.

  • In IFA 2018 we have seen OpenAssist door in Bosch dishwashers. Will this feature come to the US anytime soon?
Most European manufacturers typically release the first version of their products in Europe before introducing them to the US markets. Given that both Miele and Samsung have released their versions of automatically opening dishwasher doors in the US, Bosch released this feature under the marketing name "AutoAir Dry" as of July 2019 in select 500 Series models.

  • We have seen zeolite drying in high-end Thermador dishwashers. Will this feature ever come to Bosch?
Luxury Thermador dishwasher models typically keep an edge due to marketing reasons. We love the zeolite drying in Thermador. As of July 2019 this enhanced drying method is available in 800 Series and up Bosch dishwashers dubbed as CrystalDry.
