What We Expect From Modern Washers & Dryers
1) Cleaning and Drying Performance
There have been significant changes in washers and dryers over the past few years. The trend towards front load washers is because they generally perform more efficiently, permit stacking, and a have sleek, modern look. Both Samsung and Electrolux produce good-looking modern washers with many innovative features.
Samsung washers come with up to 14 dedicated wash cycles and 12 wash options. These include PowerFoam, which penetrates deep into fabrics and gets better results on stubborn soils. Steam is useful especially if you have family members with allergies as it increases the washer's water temperature, boosts cleaning power, and dissolves detergent more effectively. Self Clean, removes dirt and bacteria from your machine, and MyCycle, saves your favorite settings. A typical high-efficiency washer takes about 80 minutes to complete a load, but Samsung's 36-minute Quick Wash delivers the same performance in less than half that time.
LuxCare and SmartCare are the names of Electrolux’s innovative wash systems. They have carefully programmed tumble rotations, and precise temperature controls to protect fabrics. SmartBoost pre-mixes water and detergent – and can also mix fabric softener and bleach – for deeper cleaning. Electrolux also has a steam option, Perfect Steam, which targets tough stains.
Note: according to manufacturers, machines that feature steam tend to consume less water and energy than conventional models.
In our busy lives, it's helpful to have to have the ability to shorten the amount of time it takes to do laundry. Catering to this need, Electrolux offers models that clean your clothes in just 15 minutes.
Washers are not the only ones gaining innovative features – manufacturers are also boosting the capabilities of dryers to cover all your needs.
One of the most common new features is Sensor Dry, which adjusts the dry time according to how wet your clothes are, preventing over-drying, protecting fabrics, and saving energy. Both Samsung and Electrolux come equipped with this feature.
Another common feature for both brands is Steam, which gently dries and removes wrinkles from clothes for easier ironing. It's also highly useful for eliminating bacteria and odor.
2) Energy Efficiency
These days, efficiency is a crucial concern, and many designs share a similar goal: save energy. Most brands, including Samsung and Electrolux, are determined to use less, protect the environment, and keep money in your pocket.
Products with the Energy Star label meet the government’s energy efficiency regulations and use less water and electricity. Almost all front load washers have this label, and more and more driers are achieving this mark as well.
Electrolux prevents unnecessary water usage with an Automatic Water-level Adjustment System that adapts according to the amount of laundry. Also, Electrolux has an Electronic Temperature Adjustment System that keeps the heat stable, preventing overheating and decreasing the amount of electricity needed.
Samsung also produces washers and dryers with the Energy Star label. Besides using less water and electricity, Samsung’s SuperSpeed Cycle is one of the best on the market for quick, 36-minute washes.
3) Noise and Vibration
An essential concern, especially for those living in smaller apartments, is noise and vibration. You might imagine that machines loaded with laundry, spinning at 1300 RPM could be loud; however, both Samsung and Electrolux have made significant strides in developing new technology to ensure quiet, stable machines.
Both Samsung and Electrolux have excellent anti-vibration systems. Samsung models with VRT Plus technology cut vibration by 40% compared to their regular washers. This technology utilizes a unique tub design and individual sensors to balance loads and keep washers as silent as possible.
Skyscraper anti-vibration systems inspired Electrolux's Perfect Balance. Electrolux trusts this system so much that the Second Floor Guarantee is provided: Electrolux machines work so silently on the second floor that you won't notice the sound while you go about your day downstairs.

When buying a new machine, it’s important to measure your space first. Washers and dryers come in a variety of sizes, and both Samsung and Electrolux produce compact, or full-size stackable washer and dryer models.
Best compact washer and dryer models come with a 24-inch width and 2 to 2.5 cu. ft. capacity. Although they may be smaller, they keep the same features and performance of full-size machines.
Helpful Tip: Compact dryers are almost always ventless and 240V electric.
Full-size washing machine standard width is 27-inches and a 4.3 cu. ft. to 5.5 cu. ft. in term of volume capacity. Depending on height and depth most washers fall into this category. However, if you need something bigger, there are also mega-sized washers that have a 29-inch to 30-inch width and up to 6.0 cu. ft. capacity. Both Samsung and Electrolux have full-size washers, and but only Samsung produces mega-size.
Just like wash performance and other features, design plays a crucial role in choosing a new appliance. Samsung’s futuristic designs stand out – with circular lines and polished exterior, it provides a sleek and modern look. Optional pedestal drawers are available for full-size and mega-size Samsung appliances for additional space and storage. Reversible doors are not obtainable on Samsung washers, but it is possible to reverse doors on their dryers.

You don’t have to wait for the first load to finish – you can wash them at the same time. Unfortunately, Electrolux does not produce a 2 in 1 machine.
Electrolux's classic designs in white, titanium and stainless steel finishes appear more modest than Samsung but are still sleek and modern, especially with the IQ Touch Control system panel. Electrolux has the world's first adaptive dispenser that accepts PODS. Usually, dispensers only permit liquid or powder detergents, but Electrolux made theirs allow all three. Electrolux washers have a pedestal option for additional storage, and both Electrolux washers and dryers have reversible door options.
5) Connectivity - Smart Appliances
Smart solutions are gaining popularity, and the appliance industry is steadily adapting more into their machines. For washers and dryers, the most popular smart solutions are smartphone and tablet applications that allow you to control and monitor your appliances and see maintenance alerts. Samsung is one of the leading innovative technology developers in the world, and it’s no surprise that Samsung has integrated smart solutions to their appliances.
Samsung has a dedicated smartphone application: the Samsung Smart Things App. With this app, you can control and monitor your washer remotely. Samsung also has an AI laundry assistant, Q-Rator, to help you plan laundry and give wash receipts for different kind of fabrics, so you don’t need to worry about wash time or temperature. Q-Rator also updates you about maintenance and gives you other useful tips.
Electrolux has not started integrating smart solutions to its washers and dryers yet. We don’t know if we will see smart solutions soon, but to follow industry trends, it might be a good idea to get started!
